This rancher renovation was designed to improve functionality and support long-term living. The kitchen was refreshed, while the primary focus was on reworking the layout to create a more accessible, comfortable bathroom. By shifting the dividing wall and borrowing space from the adjacent primary bedroom, we were able to enlarge the footprint. The hallway entrance was also adjusted to incorporate a washer and dryer area, allowing the home to function more efficiently without increasing its overall size.
The original bathroom featured a tight, enclosed shower that felt dark and difficult to access. The updated design introduces a walk-in, wheelchair-accessible shower and a built-in tub positioned at a comfortable height for ease of use. Grab bars were thoughtfully integrated to feel cohesive with the overall design while still supporting aging in place. A prefabricated vanity was selected to respect the project budget, while allowing for future flexibility if a wheelchair-accessible option is needed later on.
The client’s love of purple also guided a colour drenched bedroom, creating a rich, cohesive space that feels expressive and personal. The result is an accessible bathroom renovation that improves day-to-day function and supports comfortable living for years to come.
