common questions

WHO DO I HIRE FIRST, DESIGNER, ARCHITECT OR BUILDER?

01
You should hire your design team first. This typically includes an interior designer, and in some cases an architect, depending on the scope of your project.

Starting with design ensures your layout, scope of work, and key decisions are clearly defined before you speak with builders. Once those pieces are in place, you can begin interviewing contractors with a clear plan, which leads to more accurate pricing and fewer surprises during construction.

At Align Interior Design, we guide you through this process and can recommend trusted builders we regularly collaborate with.

  • For new homes, we can connect you with recommended architects or work alongside your chosen professional.
  • For renovations and additions, we initiate the process by developing layouts, permits, and construction plans as part of our full-service interior design packages.

If you’re still in the early planning phase, the Renovation Resource Library will help you understand timelines, trade coordination, and what to expect before moving forward.

HOW IS YOUR PRICING STRUCTURED?

04
We use a fixed-fee pricing model for our interior design packages, so you know exactly what’s included before your project begins.

Each package is based on a clearly defined scope of work, allowing you to move forward with confidence without tracking hours or unexpected design fees.

Our pricing is informed by time-tracking hundreds of projects, which allows us to accurately estimate what it takes to bring a project from initial concepts to a complete, contractor-ready design package.

Once your design package is complete, any additional support during construction is available on an hourly basis, depending on your needs and your build team.

If you don’t yet have a contractor, we’re also happy to connect you with trusted local professionals.

Our services range from full-service interior design to focused design support and digital planning tools, depending on the level of guidance you need.

WHO WILL BE ON MY design TEAM?

05

As a boutique interior design firm, we keep our team intentionally small so you receive consistent, personalized guidance throughout your project.

Our principal designer, Rebecca, leads all projects and is directly involved in key design decisions and client meetings to ensure your vision is carried through every stage.

You’ll also have a supporting designer assigned to your project, selected based on the specific needs of your space and scope of work. This allows us to provide both high-level design direction and detailed project support.

This structure allows us to deliver a high level of detail and continuity from concept through to final design.

If you’re considering working together, you can learn more about our process and approach on our About page, or explore how we guide projects from start to finish through our full-service interior design offering.
