This full home renovation was rooted in both sentiment and transformation, reimagining a dated rancher into a light-filled, highly functional space designed for long-term living. The homeowner chose to remain in a family home passed down from her late father, with a clear goal to honour its history while reshaping it to better support how she lives today, with improved flow, stronger connection between spaces, and easier access to the outdoors.
The scope included a kitchen renovation and living room renovation, all thoughtfully reworked within the existing footprint. One of the most impactful changes was transforming the standard eight-foot ceiling by utilizing the existing roof structure to create a fully vaulted space. Paired with new skylights and a glazing wall that opens to the patio, natural light now floods what was once a dark, enclosed area. The kitchen was also completely relocated to support true indoor-outdoor living, while mechanical systems were moved to the crawlspace to allow for a concealed walk-in pantry and a more efficient overall layout.
A large central island now anchors the kitchen, creating a natural gathering point for both everyday use and entertaining. The hood fan was intentionally designed as a focal point, centered across from the island and aligned with the skylights to create a strong visual moment within the space. Finished in a lime clay plaster with a durable coating, its sculptural form brings in a subtle Spanish influence, paired with rustic flooring and bold granite countertops that add warmth and character. The living room and ensuite were updated with the same approach, focusing on comfort, durability, and spaces that feel easy to live in. The result is a rancher kitchen renovation and full home update that feels cohesive, inviting, and thoughtfully designed for real life.
