This full home renovation in Whistler, BC was designed to transform a once-segmented mountainside home into a cohesive space that supports multigenerational living and connection. When the homeowners came to us, they shared that they wanted the home to feel like a true family hub and that “it can’t feel too precious,” which guided many of our design decisions. By removing dividing walls and rethinking the layout, we created a great room where the kitchen, dining, living, and bar areas flow together, allowing multiple people to gather, cook, and relax comfortably at the same time. A custom built-in bench and integrated bar were thoughtfully introduced to support entertaining and flexible seating, while expansive glazing was positioned to frame the surrounding mountain views and bring natural light deep into the home.
To create a sense of warmth and continuity, we leaned into natural materials and clean architectural lines, using a vaulted wood ceiling and a vertical concrete fireplace to anchor the space and draw your eye upward. Behind the scenes, careful structural planning allowed us to raise the roof and open up the volume without compromising the existing home. We prioritized durable, easy-to-maintain materials throughout so the space feels relaxed and livable, resulting in a modern alpine home renovation that is functional, inviting, and designed to be enjoyed for generations.
