This North Vancouver townhome renovation was designed to help a growing family stay in the home they already loved. As the couple started planning for their future, it became clear that the layout needed to evolve with them. Like many townhomes, there was no powder room on the main floor, which isn’t always noticeable until you start thinking about daily routines, guests, and eventually potty training. We knew it would become essential, so the goal was to find a way to incorporate a powder bathroom into a relatively small main floor without compromising how the rest of the space functioned.
Working within the existing footprint, we reconfigured the area under the staircase to create space for the new powder room while maintaining access to the lower level. The kitchen renovation was completed alongside this, requiring only minimal adjustments to the layout but resulting in a much more efficient and usable space.Café white appliances finished help tie into the home’s heritage character, while features like an oversized pull-out cabinet create functional pantry storage. Removing the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining area allowed the space to feel more connected, making room for a full-size dining table and a custom built-in bench with added storage.
The design approach focused on modernizing the home while still respecting its original charm, with moments of personality layered throughout. This is most evident in the powder room, where blue beadboard, a bold yellow wallpaper, and warm gold accents create a playful focal point. Updates to the staircase and entry helped reduce its visual impact while introducing custom storage that keeps the space feeling open and organized. The result is a townhome renovation that balances function and character, creating a home that feels practical, personal, and ready to grow with the family.
