From removing walls to optimizing storage, every design decision was made with flow, versatility, and timeless style in mind.

The Clients’ Wish List: A Kitchen Built for Family & Entertaining

Our clients came to us with a clear vision: they wanted a kitchen that felt open, inviting, and practical for their everyday life. Their existing layout felt too compartmentalized, making it difficult to entertain or even just enjoy casual family time.

Their must-haves included:

  • Removing the wall between the kitchen and dining area to create an open-concept space
  • A large island that could double as a prep zone, casual dining spot, and a place for the kids to do homework
  • A strong connection to the backyard and pool area
  • Smart cabinetry solutions that maximized storage, including a space-saving small walk-in pantry
  • A focal-point hood fan without sacrificing valuable storage

Reconfiguring the Space: Smart Layout Changes

While the overall square footage of the home remained the same, the footprint of the kitchen and dining area was completely reworked.

  • The kitchen was relocated to where the dining area once was, allowing for a more efficient flow.
  • The removal of the dividing wall instantly created a more spacious and connected layout.
  • A previously wasted space was transformed into a small but functional walk-in pantry and entry closet, ensuring no storage was lost in the redesign.

Balancing Storage & Style: The Back Wall Design

One of the biggest design decisions revolved around the cabinetry layout behind the island. With sloped ceilings in play, we had to be intentional about balancing storage and openness.

  • Instead of upper cabinetry, we installed a sleek quartz backsplash with a 4” deep open shelf, perfect for keeping essentials like olive oils and wine glasses within easy reach.
  • By incorporating a small walk-in pantry, we were able to reduce the need for upper cabinets while still maintaining plenty of storage.
  • Sconce lighting was added to bring light closer to the prep space, ensuring both function and ambiance.

A Neutral, Timeless Palette with Modern Contrast

When it came to finishes, we kept things neutral and timeless while introducing modern elements to add depth and character.

  • A black island and pendant lighting helped ground the design and tie in the black grid window above the sink.
  • A narrow shaker door profile offered a subtle modern update while keeping the cabinetry classic.
  • Fluted details on the hood fan and island introduced texture and a sense of craftsmanship.

Blending Contemporary Features with Classic Design

We always strive to create kitchens that feel current yet timeless. This project was no exception.

  • Panel-covered appliances ensured a clean, seamless look.
  • Fluted accents added a touch of personality without overwhelming the space.
  • Hidden storage solutions, including a kidney-shaped pullout corner cabinet, maximized efficiency.

The End Result: A Kitchen That Works for Everyday Life

This renovation wasn’t just about making the kitchen look good—it was about creating a space that truly works for the family. With an open layout, thoughtful storage solutions, and a palette that will stand the test of time, the Surrey Springs kitchen is now a place where cooking, gathering, and making memories happen effortlessly.
